This policy explains what information the Scrap4Free Collector app collects, why, and how it’s used. It applies to the mobile app used by registered collectors on the Scrap4Free platform (scrap4free.co.uk), available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Who this app is for
This app is only for collectors who hold, or are applying for, a collector account on the Scrap4Free platform. It is not intended for members of the public, and account access is granted by Scrap4Free directly.
Information we collect
Account information
When you register or log in as a collector, we collect your username, company name, email address, phone number, and account/business type. This is the same information already held in your Scrap4Free collector account on the website.
Location data
With your permission, the app accesses your device’s location to show you nearby jobs and calculate collection routes. Location is only used while you’re actively using the relevant part of the app (e.g. the Routes screen) — we do not track your location in the background when the app isn’t in use.
Photos
If you choose to attach a photo (for example, to a job or waste transfer note), the app accesses your device’s camera or photo library with your permission. Photos you take or select are uploaded to our systems as part of the relevant job or compliance record.
Waste Transfer Notes and job data
To fulfil waste transfer compliance requirements, the app collects and stores details you enter about jobs and waste transfer notes, including customer name, email address, postcode, and details of the waste collected. This data is also shared with the customer (for their own compliance records) and, where relevant, with your registered waste yard.
Messages
Messages you send or receive through the app’s chat feature (between you and Scrap4Free’s admin team) are stored so both parties can see the conversation history.
Push notification token
If you enable notifications, we store a device token (a unique identifier provided by Apple or Google, not by us) so we can send you alerts about new jobs. This token doesn’t identify you personally on its own — we link it to your collector account internally.
App usage data
We collect basic usage information — when you log in, which parts of the app you use, and how long you spend in the app — to understand how the app is being used and to improve it. This does not include the content of what you view or type, only which screens were opened and for how long.
How we use this information
We use the information above to:
- Operate your collector account and show you relevant jobs
- Calculate distances and routes to collection addresses
- Fulfil legal waste transfer documentation requirements
- Let you communicate with our admin team
- Send you notifications about new job opportunities
- Understand and improve how the app is used
- Meet our own legal and regulatory obligations as a waste management platform
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who we share information with
- Your customers, where a waste transfer note is created for a job you’ve collected — this is a legal requirement, not optional
- Your registered waste yard(s), where you choose to send a summary of collected waste
- Firebase (Google), our push notification provider, which delivers notifications to your device on our behalf
- Our website hosting provider, which stores the underlying data for both the website and app
- Regulatory or law enforcement bodies, if we’re legally required to disclose information
We do not share your data with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
How long we keep your data
We retain collector account data for as long as your account is active, and waste transfer records for the period required by UK waste management regulations. If you close your collector account, we’ll retain records only as long as legally necessary and delete the rest.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Ask us to correct inaccurate data
- Ask us to delete your data, where we’re not legally required to keep it
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format

Children
This app is intended for business use by registered collectors and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we’ll notify collectors through the app or by email. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
