Which tip rules apply to your postcode?
The NG1 to NG16 area is split between Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire, with one postcode in Derbyshire. Each has different tip rules. A Scrap4Free collection works the same everywhere.

Lenton recycling centre
- Where: Redfield Road, Lenton Industrial Estate, NG7 2UJ
- Who: City residents only. Staff may ask for your driving licence.
- Not accepted: business waste, including from rented properties
- Fridges: currently one per visit, one visit a week
County recycling centres
- Register first: your vehicle must be registered with the county council before you visit
- Up to two vehicles per registration
- Not accepted: trade waste
- Vans: big changes are coming in 2027

New van rules at Nottinghamshire tips
Vans will need a booked appointment, will be limited to six visits a year, and Luton vans, box vans, flatbeds and vehicles over 3.5 tonnes won’t be allowed. A Scrap4Free collection isn’t affected.

Is scrap metal collection really free in Nottingham?
Yes, collection is free for most ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal across NG1 to NG16, including washing machines, cookers, boilers, radiators and general metal waste. A small charge may apply to fridges and freezers because of the specialist disposal needed for their cooling gases.

I live in West Bridgford, Arnold or Beeston. Which tip do I use?
Those areas are in Nottinghamshire, so you use the county council’s recycling centres. You must register your vehicle with Nottinghamshire County Council before you visit.

From 2 January 2027, Nottinghamshire County Council says vans will need a booked appointment, will be limited to six visits a year, and Luton vans, box vans, flatbeds and vehicles over 3.5 tonnes won’t be allowed.
Can landlords use the Nottingham tip?
No. Nottingham City Council says waste from businesses, including rented properties, can’t be brought to the Lenton recycling centre. Landlords can request a Scrap4Free collection for metal left in a property.

Collectors on Scrap4Free must hold a valid Environment Agency waste carrier registration, which we check against the public register. Scrap metal collectors also need a collector’s licence from their council, such as Nottingham City Council or the district council where they’re based.
Will I be paid for my scrap?
Scrap4Free is a free collection service rather than a buying service, so most household collections are simply free of charge. By law, scrap metal can’t be paid for in cash in England, so any payment for larger loads would need to be by bank transfer or cheque.
